Where would be without the box set? I, for starters, would have not seen probably 90% of the TV programmes which I now adore. What did anyone do before them?
Granted, over the summer I had a lot of time on my hands. I revelled in discovering things which I now consider to be some of the best things I've ever seen. Dexter, The Shield, even watching all series' of Lost all over again rekindled a dwindling love affair (plus watching it all in close proximity doesn't give you time to forget all the subtle foreshadowing which would become imperative in the latter series). I've already waxed lyrical about Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm, both of which without the boxset and *cough*Mininova*cough* would merely be just two other shows which have been and gone. I even missed The Office first time round, only to lend the DVD off someone to realise it's probably in the top 5 things of all time.
Now I find myself shunning what's upcoming on television (except the Seinfeld reunion on Curb, of course), and delving into the archives for my televisual fixes. Dexter, Lost and Curb are ongoing of course, but next up is the Wire for me, then Deadwood, then who knows? The possibilities are endless.
Series recommendations welcome!
Dan.
