A piece of World Cup nostalgia, humour or sheer brilliance from World Cups of years gone by every day until that opening Day. We may be cultural reviewers, but we're certainly not too cool to love our footbAll (at least oNe of us definitely loves football, mentioning no names and having no cryptic clues in this paragraph...)
Today, it's the turn of Uruguay's Dario Rodriguez, who netted this absolute scorcher against Denmark in Japan in 2002's group stage.
Not a goal worthy of being on a losing side (Denmark won 2-1). Uruguay went out, along with, surprisingly, holders France, as Denmark and Senegal sensationally progressed. Bizarrely, El-Hadji Diouf and Salif Diao were absolute stars.
It should be noted that this goal represents the whole unpredictability of this group and the 2002 tournament as a whole also, I suppose. This thunderous volley is just so easy on the eye, though.
TOMORROW: It's back to 1978 for some more unlikely genius...
