Song of the Day: 26/4/10

The Fall - O.F.Y.C. Showcase

The Fall (well, Mark E Smith) have the knack of pulling a great album out of nowhere. Their albums around the turn of the century were all decent, then *bam* - Fall Heads Roll  comes along in 2005 and instantly ranks along their best output. Incredible, really, considering its release came almost 30 years (and about 832 albums) after the band's formation way back when in the wake of the ailing punk scene.

Since 2005, there have been Reformation Post-TLC and Imperial Wax Solvent, both of which were pretty solid albums. Today, however, sees the release of Your Future, Our Clutter, an LP which already seems to be an absolute classic. The first track alone (today's Song of the Day!) just sounds amazing: a mix of the old Live at the Witch Trials era Fall with some new sounds in there too.

As the late John Peel said, "They're always the same, but always different". So true.

'Your Future, Our Clutter' (recorded in Liverpool, I am told) is out now on supremo-indie label Domino.
