Why I Hate... Anti-Piracy

News (?) this month is that Lily Allen has reportedly 'quit' music as copyright infringement has led to her 'not making any profit out of music'. This news is set back in the context of Allen, 24 has just bought a mansion in Jamaica and is in the middle of a sold out tour. Yes, mini-Keith should be signing on the dole by the end of the week. This long-debated issue has almost everyone involved from Metallica throwing the first stone when they ruined 'Napster' to the messiah Gary Barlow joining Allen's gang of revolutionaries. Although, there is one similarity between all of these artists? They're fucking loaded!

The main argument surrounding Piracy and music is that 'it's destroying the industry', oh yeah these artists really look like they're struggling! Oh what's that you're thinking? Unsigned artists are suffering as they can't make enough money, because no one is buying their singles? Bullshit! Yeah, the Arctic Monkeys most definitely made all their money from record sales. Oh no? You mean they gave out their records for free at gigs to spread exposure? And what about our old friend Lily? She started out with free to listen MySpace songs? Well i never.

The main problem with the anti-piracy movement is that it's headed by mega-rich arseholes. Who could easily afford to not make any more money in their lives and still live a life that 80% of society could never dream of. But if they are genuinely protesting for the benefit of new artists, then fuck off. This is because an acceptable way of artists to make money would be, erm, by doing their job? Getting out and gigging everywhere. Prove their worth by performing live across the country, and then if they're good enough people will hear their stuff for free and then pay to see them live. That's how the Arctic’s did it, why not get dirty and prove your worth?

No, because this anti-piracy movement is perfect for the 'x-factor generation'. Shitty artists who want to make a quick pound out of copying someone else's material, and selling a shed load out to a brainwashed viewer (I say viewer because to assume they actually listened to the shitty cover would be ludicrous). It is a valid argument to suggest that 'Alexandra Burke' (and another million artists) ruin classic songs. At least when I'm using Leonard Cohen's material I'm not wielding it into a heartless, belating noise, devoid of any meaning or context it once had. No I will not sit back and let massive record companies take my love of music away, and take what pittance of money I have, whilst Leonard Cohen gets raped on a yearly basis and it makes the corporate bastards millions of pounds.

Any deserving artist has to work for their recognition, and with recognition comes fandom, and then there will come a wage. Yes, not a fortune, a wage like the rest of us.

n.b. I currently have 5,316 songs (28.6gb). I use it to appreciate artists I like. At a rate of just £1 a single, that's £5,316. I cannot afford that. But I spend every spare pound I have going to gigs and music festivals. So come and get me you fucking money grabbing bastards. I'm ready to take the whole music industry down, major by major.

*I will most likely have another Why I Hate... Anti Piracy in the future. Specifically relating to films, and also if any wank celebrity gets on the bandwagon..

  1. Why i hate .. ur argument here. People who write there own music get there own songs together and create a c-d shouldnt get paid for this??? and what about the rest of the team, who help in creating cd? hmmm. Yes ok they are all loaded but tbh we all get payed for our jobs , sadly its rather easy to work in topshop like me so im not in high demand. But i cant write and produce music so much so i can get a mass amount of the population to come an watch me perform. Can you? If there wasnt so much downloading c-d's would be cheaper duuuuurh, they have to raise prices, to cover theft loss. OH AND BY THE WAY, what about all the average jo's who work in the factories that make the disks that ur putting out of work by making everyone download for free online? yeh its sucks u cant buy every cd you want , But there doing a job and alot of different people contribute to the finished ''album'' product so stop being so self righteous and give them abit of money. The truth is u just dont like people with money complaining about not having enough money in which case i suggest u listen to lifestyles of the rich an the famous by good charlotte and dont JUST take it out on popstars but title ur blog why i hate the ''upper class'' and structure ur argument a little better. end. :]

  3. 1. you work in a factory turning a big machine computer on that does all the work. not exactly closing down the mines.

    2. 'if it weren't for downloading cd's would be cheaper'. absolute myth. the price of cd's have gone up with the rate of inflation. download sales now outsell hard format. there is a demand for online distributin. The rise of websites like spotify is proof of this. People getting music in return for advertising. The shitty artists are still making money!

    3. it's nothing to do with class structures, simply angry at an industry who is ludicrously wealthy, who blames the little man for their corporate greed not taking over.

    4. my structure was fine. introduction with relevant news. main body. examples. ideas for a better solution, then ending with an invitation. standars structure of a debate.

    5. not a matter of staying true, just realising that selling everything isn't always the key to success. p.s. xfactor is the devil

sorry i wasnt aware u knew the exact in's an outs of factory jobs? An even if its
not the most important its still work better then being on the dole. No doubt another I hate ull come up with soon ''I hate people on the dole?''

Spotify isnt the be all and end all of music u cant even get a beatles track on there.

Tbh im just gonna stick with my guns. People providing a service deserve to get payed. What that is, is not up to you so move on.
