Animal Collective - Summertime Clothes
I missed doing this.
This is a great Animal Collective track, a standout from Merriweather Post Pavilion, their last full-length effort. I urge you: Dance.
More to come (promise)
Stay beautiful,
Dan

Irma Thomas - Ruler Of My Heart
Following on from last night's first episode of This is England '86, which has all the promise to be absolutely marvellous, seemingly following a similar mood to the film, with a bright, upbeat start before the darkness rears its ugly head. This song featured in the doomed wedding scene last night, and proved a wonderful selection, as did Fleetwood Mac's Man of the World to close the episode also.
Enjoy.

Song(s) of the Day: 19/8/10
Following Dan's lead, this is just a link rather than an embedded video. Some surfy-punky songs here. Imagine Best Coast but not as cliched.
I am still a bit too busy to write up Edinburgh reviews. I will get round to it, I promise.

The Sleepy Jackson - Vampire Racecourse
Two songs of the day in as many days? What a purple patch!
Alas, a link rather than an embedding, due to EMI's stringent copyright laws. Australia is quite a lump of land, famous for few things aside from the rotary washing line, team sports which not very many countries play to a high standard (both rugbys, cricket...) and Kylie. Luke Steele, however, recently famous as one half of Empire of the Sun, fronted a wee band called the Sleepy Jackson in the first half of this decade. This was their debut single from 2003; a stomper which saw the NME proclaim them as the best thing from Oz since Nick Cave. Two albums later and the success never came, despite their two critically acclaimed albums. Give this a listen though, enjoy, and download 2003's Lovers. You shan't regret it.

LCD Soundsystem - Drunk Girls
Hey, this has probably been featured before (I'm looking at you, Dan), but certainly not accompanied by this anarchic Spike Jonze video. Watch the band attempt to sing in spite of being tormented by men in panda masks. Complete with satisfying conclusion.
Also, I have just got back from Edinburgh, so will write up some comedy reviews. I wanted to write a blog piece each day in order to form a Fringe diary, but my stupid phone doesn't support stupid Blogger so I couldn't.

Eels - Flyswatter
Mark Oliver Everett ought to be revered by all as one of the great artists of all time. But things just don't work that way. He is, however, definitely amongst the most likeable, funny and honest men in the music business (Check out this great feature on DrownedinSound). A new Eels album is imminent, but this particular oddity, however, is from Daisies of the Galaxy, and is ten years old this summer. Listen to and enjoy both, and for that matter absolutely all albums. It is a move you will not regret.
Cheers,
Dan.

The Velvet Underground - All Tomorrow's Parties
Hiatus over.
Ethereal wizardy from Reed, Cale et al. Listen to those drums. Perhaps the most simplistic drumbeat until Just Like Honey, it carries much the same impact; a real haunting and chilling backdrop which is accompanied by a piano with its strings entwined with paper clips for a bizarre noise. It works. Brilliantly.

I Break Horses - Wired
This demo is straight off the Bella Union (amazing indie record label) website. It has a real Cocteau Twins vibe to it, with touches of The xx in places and I think it's brilliant.

Episode 4: 08/07/2010
Episode 4 has arrived! This week, it's Raoul Moat, ludicrous right-wing press headlines, stripping teachers, lots of telly, a review of the Mystery Jets' latest offering, and another timely interruption of Radio 4's smash-hit 'Drop your trousers, please'. Enjoy!

The Joy of 6
Digital station saved from closure after protests
After the BBC director general Mark 'Thommo' Thompson announced that alternative radio station 6 Music would be axed late last year, its small but loyal fanbase fought back, and they seem to have won the battle against its closure.
The incredible internet presence held by the 'Save 6 Music' campaign saw numerous websites spring up, a raft of newspaper articles on the matter get published online and in print, and seemingly every other Twitter user deciding to show their support by adorning their display picture with a 'Save 6' twibbon. A great many celebrities added their voice to the protest, too, including the likes of David Bowie, who said that 6 was 'keeping alive the spirit of John Peel'.
With all of the media attention it garnered, it seemed inevitable that more people would listen to the station. Since the first announcement that 6 would be chopped, its listenership has doubled. Presumably, this - coupled with the wedge of complaints it recieved - is what has prompted the BBC Trust to veto Thompson's decision and keep the station open.
Sadly, however, it seems as though the BBC Asian Network will still face the chop, with the Trust maintaining that it will "consider a formal proposal for the closure of the Asian Network, although this must include a proposition for meeting the needs of the station's audience in different ways". Quite how this will be achieved remains to be seen.

Kisses - Bermuda
A real summer tune from this boyfriend-and-girlfriend duo from Los Angeles. They sound like a modern, C86-inspired band gone Eurodisco, (with a hint of r'n'b in the drumming too).
